Welcome
To a Festival of Swiss Ingenuity
Zurich, Switzerland’s largest city, is a vibrant hub of 21st-century innovation. Located in the heart of Europe at the crossroads of many cultures, it is renowned for its efficiency and stability, and thrives on out-of-the-box art, science, technology and trends.
Building on the upcoming 100th anniversary of the Dada movement founded in Zurich by refugees fleeing World War I, the Consulate General of Switzerland in New York is joining forces with the City of Zurich, ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich (UZH) to present a multi-venue, citywide festival exploring the contemporary relevance of visionary movements and scientific discoveries born in Zurich and their impact on American culture. Swiss and Americans will gather for select performances, talks and workshops, showcasing Zurich’s unique creative culture and innovative research community, while highlighting Switzerland’s impact on the global stage.
How is Dada understood and lived by 21st-century artists? What is the influence of Carl G. Jung on screenwriting and video games? How can we build more resilient cities, systems and societies? How is data science revolutionizing our lives? What do artificial intelligence and behavioral economics tell us about the complex interactions among the brain, body and environment? The festival program reveals an extraordinary wealth of wonders for New Yorkers eager to share new knowledge and experiences. Grand Central Terminal’s Vanderbilt Hall will also host an installation allowing the public to travel to a virtual Zurich thanks to ETH Zurich’s latest augmented reality technology.
We invite you all to discover the marvelous ingenuity of Zurich!
